About

Welcome to the Watershed Management and Water Quality Lab! Based in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at New Mexico State University, our research group is dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of how climate, vegetation, soil, and land management dynamics interact to shape hydrological processes and water quality with a special emphasis on arid and semi-arid ecosystems.

Through interdisciplinary research, we translate multi-scale datasets such as in-situ data, satellite Earth observations, geospatial information, and modeling into applications to protect water resources, support agricultural productivity, ecosystem sustainability, and help guide watershed management.

Research Areas

  • Impacts of climate and weather on water quantity and quality
  • Compound/cascading climate events and water quality responses
  • Digital Twins architecture applied to watershed management
  • Agricultural beneficial management practices
  • Nature-based solutions and low-tech process-based restoration to watershed management
Our Goal

Translate data, modeling, and stakeholder knowledge into useful and useable information to advance watershed management and conservation.
